Best Lizard- maschio argentato cap - Gaiazzi Alessandro

Best Lizard: Alessandro Gaiazzi.

A clear cap silver cock.  This bird was a natural showman.  He was always confident in the show cage and his beautiful spangles were always straight.  A bold bird of good size.  The cap was a nice oval shape but on the limit for length.  I would like to have seen more rowings.  The legs were dark, but not black.

Un maschio argentato calotte netta. L’uccello era un attore eccezionale. E’ stato sempre confidente nella gabbia da esposizione e le sue belle scaglie stavano sempre in linea. Un uccello audace di buona taglia, La calotta era un piacevole ovale ma al limite per la lunghezza. Avrei gradito di vedere più rowings. Le gambe erano scure , ma non nere.

2° BEST Lizard- femmina argentata cap - Furio Coppelli

A clear cap silver hen.  A beautiful bird.  Broad, clear spangles with good rowings.  The cap was the correct length.  Strong melanins in the spangles and the wings, but the legs and claws should be darker.  This bird could have won Best in Show, but some loose feathers spoilt her appearance.

Una femmina calotte netta argentata. Un bell’uccello. Largo, scaglie nette con buone rowings.  La calotta era della lunghezza corretta. Forte melanina nelle scaglie e sulle ali, ma le gambe e le dovevano essere più scure. Questo uccello avrebbe vinto il titolo di BEST in Show , ma alcune penne mancanti hanno inficiato la sua performance.

Best Dorato- Femmina dorata no cap - Fanfani Piero

A broken cap gold hen.  Good spangles and good rowings.  There were several good golds in the show, so this bird won against strong competition. Feather quality a little loose, so that the spangles were not always as straight as the silvers.  Mr. Fanfani had a good team of birds at the show.

Una femmina dorata calotte spezzata. Buone scaglie e buone rowings. C’erano parecchie buoni dorati in mostra, quindi questo uccello ha vinto una forte concorrenza. Una piccola La qualità del piumaggio era il suo piccolo difetto, quindi le scaglie non erano sempre diritte come quelle degli argentati. Il signor Fanfani aveva un bel gruppo di uccelli allo show.

Best calotta spezzata argentata - Antonio Petraroli

A broken cap silver hen.  An attractive bird.  Her spangles were almost as good as the two clear caps.  Good rowings and dark legs and beak.  This bird had outstanding melanin in the wings, with almost no brown in the primaries.  This bird’s ancestry can be traced back via Prof. Eugenio Benussi to Len Wood, a top English Lizard breeder from the 1970s and 80s.  Cream always rises to the top.

Una femmina argentata calotte spezzata. Un uccello attraente. Le sue scaglie erano buone quasi come i  due calotta netta argentati. Buone rowings e gambe e becco nero.

Best non cap: Furio Coppelli.Questo uccello aveva melanina eccezionale sulle ali, con quasi assenza di bruno nelle primarie. L’ascendenza di questo uccello può essere fatta risalire tramite il Prof. Eugenio Benussi a Len Wood, un ottimo allevatore  inglesedi  Lizard  dal 1970 e '80. La crema sale sempre verso l'alto.

 A smaller bird than the other winners, but with good spangles and rowings.  Furio had a very good team of birds at the show.

Un Uccello più piccolo degli altri, ma con buone scaglie e rowing. Furio aveva un ottimo gruppo di uccelli alla mostra.

There were 157 birds on show and the quality was consistent.  In particular, the broken cap gold cock class and the broken cap silver hen class were very strong.  However there were some recurrent faults: caps too long (even the non caps had a clear spot low down the neck); a “cravat” in the throat; and poor ground colour.  These are serious faults and breeders need to take action to eliminate them.

The thing that pleased me most about meeting the Italian Lizard breeders is that they are all young!  They are keen to learn, and have time on their side.  From what I have seen at Bari and Bologna, I am confident that Italy could become the strongest nation for Lizard canaries by the end of the decade.

PS. The photographs show the birds against different coloured backgrounds.  That is because the show cages were painted blue, green and all shades in between!

 C’erano 157 lizard e la qualità era consistente. In particolare , la classe maschi dorati calotta spezzata e le femmine calotta spezzata argentate erano molto forti.

Comunque c’erano alcuni difetti ricorrente: calotte troppo lunghe (anche i senza calotta avevano una macchia chiara in giu sul collo); cravatta alla gola, ed uno scarso colore di fondo. Questi sono difetti gravi e gli allevatori devono intervenire per eliminarli.

La cosa che mi è piaciuta di più del meeting degli allevatori di lizard è che sono per la maggior parte giovani!  Essi hanno desiderio di imparare ed hanno il tempo dalla loro parte. Da quello che io ho visto a Bari ed a Bologna, Io sono fiducioso che l’Italia potrà diventare la più forte nazione dei Canarini Lizard alla fine di questa decade.
