LIZARD CANARY ASSOCIATION (LCA) CONSIDERATIONS ON LIZARD TO WORLD SHOW 2011: Championnat du
Monde des Oiseaux d'élevage, Tours (France) 2011 by John Martin.
I have sent some lizards photos exhibited at World Show in Tours to some
European expert to have some considerations.
Dear Angelo,
I trust you and your family are in good health, thank you very much for the photos of the lizards that won at Tours, while it is hard to judge a bird properly from just a photo the exhibits would appear to support the current view that appears to be promoted by some OMJ judges about the reduced length of the bird and the reward structure that appears to favor Clear caps in general and Hens with their trademark Rowings in particular ,OMJ judges really have to ask themselves why it is that the Ideal Lizard Canary as described in the LCA Hand book by the founders of the LCA The pinnacle of the Lizard breeders art The Clear Capped Gold Cock would NEVER win under these OMJ Judges, That is not a satisfactory state of affairs and one that the LCA of Great Britain will be addressing in the months to come. A smaller bird will give you a narrower back, thinner spangle which could deteriorate into tram lines and a narrow pinched head which will not show the beauty of the cap off to its best advantage, it will also give the appearance of too much breastwork because a more fuller, cobby breast will show the Rowings off to its best advantage. The standard calls for Rowings to be Clear, Distinct, and Regular, many of the birds that I have seen in photos from Continent have far too much breastwork. If European breeders carry on down this path then they will eventually arrive at breeding a lizard with a completely black chest, is that where we all want go?
It is no accident that under OMJ judges Hens appear to be winning everywhere, and when one turns up in a class of Cocks as I believe happened at Bologna, it must surprise no one that the Hen comes out on top because of the preference of the judge That again is not judging to the LCA standard,
There can only be one standard and that is the one laid down by the founding members of the Lizard Canary Association, and I remind our friends in COM and OMJ that at Piacenza assurances were given to the LCA representative Paul Brockman that NO alteration to the Standard would be allowed without the consent and agreement of the Parent body, the LCA. and we hold them to that promise. For a COM judge at the World Show to say that we should fall into line with the standard that they appear to be judging to,is not acceptable to us in the UK
Kind Regards
John Martin
