Hello Angelo,

Sorry that I haven’t answered earlier but I have just read your e-mail. I’ve had a very busy weekend. Here are my answers on your questions. I hope that everything is clear and that you understand everything . If you want to know more, please let me know.
Could you tell us some information about you? My name is Hans Stevens, I`m 60 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. I breed several breeds of posture canaries: gloster, giboso-espagnola, crested, border, melado- tenerfeno, Norwich and of course Lizard, Vectis.
From how many years do you breed canaries? And how long do you breed Lizard?
I breed canaries for 53 years now. When I was 7 years old I started with color-canaries. In 1968 I started with posture canaries.
How long are you judge? I`ve been a judge for 23 years now from whom 11 years a C.O.M. judge. I also have educated new judges for 10 years. Beside this I`ve been in the technical commission for posture canaries for 20 years.
How many lizard pairs do you breed? Lizards I breed for 20 years now. Mostely I breed 10 coupes of Lizards of Whom a few couples vectis, that`s a lizard corona.
How many lizards you get every year? Every year I get about 60 or 70 Lizards.
What is your best positions with the lizard? I play the most shows in Holland not in other countries. But in 1992 I have send in for the World Show in Breda, Holland, and my best positions here was the second place. And several times I was the Dutch champion by the A.N.B.v.V, and by the Lizard club in Keijenborg I have reached different places (1st, 2nd,3th)

As a breeder, what is the most important characteristic in lizard? As a breeder I think the most important characteristic in Lizard is the sprangles, rowings, ground color and the radiation. Also the beak, legs and feet reeds to be so dark as possible.

As a judge, what is the first feature that your eye detects in a good Lizard? As a judge, the first feature that my eye detect in a good Lizard is, are the sprangles and rowing.
Have you ever seen the lizard in Italian? No, I haven`t ever seen the Lizard in Italy before.
What do you expect from the exhibition in Bologna? I expect to see a lot of Lizards of good quality.

It 's the first time that you come in Italy? I`ve been in Italy twice just for holiday but I`ve never been in Italy for an exhibition unfortunately. But I`m glad I`ve been invited to judge this show.

Prendendo spunto da quanto pubblicato su Avifauna Forum , sezione club del Fife-Fancy, visto che Mr. Hans Stevens è poco conosciuto in Italia, ma molto più all’estero , gli ho inviato questo breve questionario. Da sottolineare la sua padronanza e conoscenza della lingua inglese.

Ciao Angelo, mi scuso per non aver risposto prima alla tua e-mail, ma solo oggi la ho letta , ho avuto una settimana molto impegnata. Di seguito troverai le mie risposte alle tue domande , spero che sia tutto chiaro . Se vuoi ulteriori spiegazioni fammelo sapere.
PUOI DIRCI QUALCOSA SU DI TE? Il mio nome è Hans Stevens , ho 60 anni,e vivo in Nijmegen, Paese Bassi. Allevo parecchie razze di canarini di forma e posizione : gloster, giboso, spagoni, crest, border, melado-tenerfeno, Norwich e naturalmente lizard e lizard ciuffati.

DA QUANTO TEMPO ALLEVI CANARINI? E DA QUANTO TEMPO ALLEVI LIZARD? Allevo canarini da 53 anni. All’età di 7 anni cominciai con i canarini di colore e nel 1968 cominciai con i canarini di forma e posizione.

DA QUANTO TEMPO SEI GIUDICE? Sono giudice da 23 anni e da 11 giudice internazionale della COM. Ho anche effettuato per 10 anni corsi per allievi giudici. Oltre questo sono stato nella Commissione tecnica per i canarini di forma e posizione per 20 anni.

QUANTE COPPIE DI LIZARD ALLEVI? Io allevo Lizard da quasi 20 anni. Generalmente metto in cova 10 coppie e qualche coppi di “VECTIS” , che è il lizard con la corona.

QUANTI LIZARD PRODUCI OGNI ANNO? Ogni anno ottengo circa 60 – 70 lizard novelli.

QUALI SONO STATE LE TUE VITTORIE PIU’ IMPORTANTI CON I LIZARD? Io gareggio principalmente nei Paesi Bassi e non in altre nazioni . Ma nel 1992 ho partecipato al Campionato Mondiale nella Città di Breda, Paesi Bassi, ed ho raggiunto la seconda posizione. E parecchie volte sono stato il Campione Tedesco del A.N.B.v.V. ed al Lizard Club di Keijnborg sono stato tantissime volte nelle prime tre posizioni.

COME ALLEVATORE , QUALI SONO LE PiU’ IMPORTANTI CARATTERISTICHE NEL LIZARD? Come allevatore credo che le principali caratteristiche di un lizard siano le scaglie, le rowings, il colore di fondo e la “radiazione” ( l’aureola del canarino. La prima impressione, il quadro completo dell’uccello; il colore , la posizione ed il disegno). Anche il becco , le gambe ed i piedi devono essere più scure possibili.

COME GIUDICE , QUAL’E’ LA PRIMA COSA, DI UN LIZARD, CHE COLPISCE I TUOI OCCHI? Scaglie e rowings

HAI MAI VISTO I LIZARD ITALIANI? No , non ho mai visto fino ad ora i lizard in Italia.

COSA TI ASPETTI DALLA MOSTRA DI BOLOGNA? Mi aspetto di vedere un sacco di lizard di buona qualità.

E’ LA PRIMA VOLTA CHE VIENI IN ITALIA? Sono già venuto in Italia per vacanza , ma sfortunatamente non sono stato in Italia per una Mostra, ma sono molto grato di essere stato invitato a giudicare questa mostra.
